SC WAVE MADISON YOUTH ACADEMY
The SCW Madison Youth Academy currently serves youth soccer players in the U8 to U10 age groups by improving each player’s technical skills--dribbling, passing/receiving, shooting, and defending. The curriculum and methodology driving the youth academy reflects best practices outlined by the U.S. Soccer Federation, centering on the 4v4 and 7v7 player development philosophy. Ball mastery is key, but fundamental physical development of footwork, coordination, and balance as well as basic injury prevention methods are also emphasized through the use of fun, age appropriate games. With this foundation, SCW Madison academy players flourish in a constructive, competitive environment in which player knowledge and passion is fostered by experienced, licensed coaches who understand that players play because they enjoy the true soccer experience. Our academy players have fun by working hard individually and with a team, meeting challenges and competing with the guidance of qualified coaches, learning from mistakes as well as successes, applying new skills, and improving athletic ability. No tryouts are necessary to join the academy; however, openings are limited. SC Wave Madison is one of a select number of Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association certified youth soccer academies statewide.
All youth academy players will participate in a fall and spring league season through the Madison Area Youth Soccer Association, each season comprised of 6-8 competitive matches, as well as a minimum of one local tournament.
Fall training begins mid August and lasts until November 1. Winter session begins in December and concludes mid March. Spring training begins in April and finishes early June. Fall and spring trainings are twice weekly for 90 minutes. Winter trainings are once per week for 1 hour.

TRYOUTS + SELECTION
SC Wave Madison holds tryouts in June to evaluate players and organize teams. The final number of teams in each age group is determined by the number of players trying out and selected. The tryouts are coordinated by the Director of Coaching from SCW Madison who will evaluate and select players along with club coaches. SCW Madison will make an effort to create teams at a skill and age appropriate level as long as the numbers support it.
SC Wave Madison will notify players trying out of their selection status at the deadline set by Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association.
TEAM STRUCTURE
SC Wave Madison will offer select teams for boys and girls beginning at the U-11 age level and ending at the U-19 age level. Teams will be given a gold or black designation. The number of players trying out and coaching availability will determine if there is a third team or not. U13, U14, and U15 teams may carry up to18 players. U16 and higher level teams may carry as many as 22 players. Teams compete in the MAYSA, State League Premier, 1st Division, or Midwest Regional League depending on age and the ability of the teams formed.
While players can guest play on other teams at SC Wave Walworth, SC Wave New Berlin, SC Wave Greendale , and SC Wave Waukesha through the club pass, the only time players can change teams is during the tryout period.
