RECREATIONAL OVERVIEW
SC Wave Soccer Club offers youth the opportunity to play soccer at many different age groups. Recreational soccer begins at the U-4 level and the SC Wave program teaches the fundamentals of soccer while placing an emphasis on having fun and enjoying the game. All players will receive equal playing time in varying positions on the soccer field.
Parent Participation
At all ages and levels of recreational soccer parents play a major role in the enjoyment that their child gets out of playing soccer and the success of the overall soccer program. The effort and time that a parent or guardian puts into a child’s soccer team has a substantial impact on the enjoyment the whole family gets out of their association with SC Wave.
U4 and U5
SC Wave begins children in soccer at the U4 and U5 age groups. The U4 and U5 age groups are combined, with practice session’s 90 minutes in length held weekly for 7-8 weeks. Sessions will consist of skill development and small sided - 3v3 soccer game. These sessions will be held on the small sided field at the UWW Soccer Complex. A knowledgeable coach who will be appointed by the Director of Player and Coaching Development will run the sessions. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in order to make the event more enjoyable for their child.
U6
At this level, players are physically developing at different levels, some becoming more competitive, some more skilled and others are just interested in having fun in playing the game of soccer. The number of teams is dependent upon the number of players who register to play that year. Each co-ed team practices once a week (Wed.) with games on Fridays. Games are played in a 4 v 4 small sided format and officiated by a paid referee. Teams only compete against other SC Waukesha teams.
U7 and U8
At this level SC Wave will slowly introduce players to the more competitive side of the game of soccer while continuing to maintain a focus on having fun. The number of teams is dependent upon the number of players who register to play that year. Each co-ed team practices twice a week, with days and times specified by the coaches. Games are played in a 4 v 4 small sided format and officiated by a paid referee. Games maybe played during the week or on Saturday. Games are to be played with teams outside of the SC Wave Club in the Waukesha Area Recreational Soccer League (WARS), comprised of Western Waukesha County teams. Travel is local with approximately half of the games being played away from the SC Wave fields. Participation in these leagues and travel to games raises the level of commitment from the parents and players. SC Wave, along with both the state and national soccer associations, feel that small-sided games provide everyone with an equal opportunity for playing time, touches on the soccer ball and the ability to better improve their soccer skills.
U9 Boys
Teams now play in a 6 v 6 format. There would be 5 field players and a goalie. Teams practice twice a week. Once an age group registration is completed the U7-U10 Director will randomly select teams of 11 players. The number of teams is dependent upon the number of players who register to play that year. Coaching Selection Process
Any parent or person interested in coaching at the recreational level at SC Wave should contact our U7-U10 Director or Director of Coaching Development. Junior Club team coaches do not get paid and are mostly parents of players. Please indicate on the club registration form your interest in becoming a coach or assistant coach for SC Waukesha. Coaching clinics are offered and each coach will be provided with specific guidelines as to what is expected at each age level. The State Association and club require a minimum of a "G" license to coach youth soccer at SC Waukesha. SC Waukesha will aid interested coaches in obtaining the required licenses. All interested coaches should volunteer as a coach when asked during the online registration process.
